Adult Services are
designed to help the men and women enrolled with the Board of MR/DD to
maintain an active and productive lifestyle. These individuals may attend
one of our workshops, participate in our seniors program or work in the community.
At the workshops, men and women can work on
subcontract work through Deepwood Industries or participate in activities.
Deepwood Industries is a
nonprofit organization responsible for securing subcontract work from area
businesses and industries and overseeing its completion at our sites. The
work consists of manually-oriented jobs such as collating, packaging,
assembly and salvaging for more than 200 area companies and organizations.
The Activities groups are structured with the individual's disability in
mind. Some groups accommodate people who use wheelchairs while others are
for senior citizens.
The Community Employment
Program offers individual placement which is an the
opportunity for an
individual to find a job and after training from our staff, the individual
continues in that job fairly independently; enclaves,
in which small groups of workers who are disabled work at
restaurants, hotels, stores and dozens of other
work sites under the supervision of our staff; and mobile work
crews, which provide grounds maintenance.
Regardless of which program,
they can receive support in areas including
mobility, self-help and daily living skills,
communication, community awareness, social and emotional
growth, and work skills
training.
